About
Born of an idea and a shared need.
Two companies in the same group were looking for the same thing, for different customers. They joined their teams to design, build and deliver Oworks.
VEONE’s need
Equipping public administrations and governments
A sovereign collaborative suite, installed on the state’s own premises, able to serve all of its ministries.
Cloud4Africa’s need
An online offering to take on Microsoft 365
A complete suite, offered online and through telecom operators, to compete with Microsoft 365 at last.
The shared answer
Oworks
One suite, designed and built together: installed on the state’s premises by VEONE, offered online and with the operators by Cloud4Africa.
Both companies started from the same foundation: fifteen years spent hosting, operating and developing email for African public administrations and businesses. Every single choice in Oworks comes from that work.
They trusted us with their email.
These organizations don’t use Oworks: they entrusted us with deploying and maintaining their email, on the technology of their choice. It’s that experience, across every one of the major open source solutions, that shaped Oworks.
| Organization | Technology | Our role |
|---|---|---|
| CNPS, Ivory Coast | BlueMind | Setup, maintenance, enhancements and customization |
| Ivorian Customs | Zimbra | Deployment |
| ANINF, Gabon | Zimbra Network Edition | Deployment and support |
| Cloud4Africa and its operators | Zimbra, then Carbonio for three years | Online operation for more than 1,000 organizations |
Why Oworks
Europe built its sovereign suites. Africa deserved its own.
France built La Suite numérique for its staff, Germany openDesk for its administration. Both rest on open source, and both are designed for their own institutions.
African public administrations, for their part, had only a choice between foreign suites and open source components to assemble on their own. We wanted to give them the same thing Europe gave itself: a complete, open suite, installed on their premises and supported locally.
State data hosted off the continent
Subject to foreign laws, accessible to other jurisdictions, and dependent on a vendor that can cut off the service.
Licenses paid in foreign currency
Prices set elsewhere, which change without negotiation and weigh on public budgets year after year.
Tools that can be neither audited nor adapted
Closed code, a roadmap decided for other markets, support several time zones away.
Who’s behind Oworks
